Implicit — that a cleaner consent banner would not hurt acceptance. It was not tested first, which is the lesson.
Replaced the consent banner with a redesigned full-screen blocking modal.

Consent acceptance fell roughly 10 points. Because the banner gates what analytics and ad platforms may record, every consent-gated number on the store shifted at the same moment — conversion rates, audience sizes, attributed revenue.
A banner change is a measurement change: annotate the date and treat metrics across it as different regimes, or you will chase phantom trends. The banner deserves the same A/B rigour as a checkout — its acceptance rate is the ceiling on all consent-gated data. Blocking layouts trade data for compliance posture; know the price before you pay it.
Before/after, not a split test. Other site changes in the same period cannot be fully excluded, though the step change lands on the rollout date.
Consent acceptance measured from banner-event data; downstream impact read from the step change in consent-gated metrics across the rollout boundary, order data as the unaffected baseline.
